A practical guide to robotic pool cleaners for silt — with honest trade-offs, best-fit picks, and the specs that matter.
Our shortlist focuses on Dolphin models available with authorized-dealer support. The buying criteria below also give you a useful framework for evaluating alternatives from any brand.
Choosing the right robotic pool cleaners for silt comes down to matching the cleaner to your pool, debris, and expectations. We ranked 3 best-fit options and made the trade-offs clear before you compare specifications or price.
Silt is the fine, powdery sediment that settles into an almost invisible film on the floor — until you disturb it and the whole pool clouds. It's common in windy, dusty, or agricultural areas and is one of the hardest debris types to actually remove.
Silt removal is all about filtration fineness and gentle, thorough floor contact. NanoFiltration captures silt at 2 microns; a robot that hugs the floor and moves methodically picks it up without kicking it into a cloud.
Ranked for this specific use case, with the reason each model earned its place—not just a list of specifications.
Our #1 match · Premium
NanoFiltration and ultra-fine cartridges capture powdery silt, and steady navigation keeps it from clouding the water.
Our #2 match · Premium
Gyroscope navigation delivers methodical floor coverage and NanoFilters hold the fine silt it collects.
Our #3 match · Mid-Premium
NanoFilters in a large basket let you run repeated passes to fully clear a silty floor.
How we ranked them: We matched filtration, brush system, coverage, debris capacity, automation, and warranty to this page's buying need. Pool fit carries more weight than the longest feature list.
Not all pool debris is created equal. Big, buoyant leaves need a huge basket and strong pickup; fine pollen and silt slip straight through cheap mesh filters. The right robotic pool cleaner is the one matched to what actually lands in your water.
Fine debris (pollen, silt, dust, dead algae) demands NanoFiltration down to 2 microns. Standard mesh baskets let these particles wash right back into the pool, leaving it cloudy even after a full cycle.
Bulk debris (leaves, acorns, twigs) fills a basket fast. Look for an oversized top-load bin or a swappable leaf bag so the robot finishes the job without clogging mid-cycle.
Sticky or bonded debris — algae film, bug residue, ground-in dirt — needs active brushes, not just suction. HyperBrush and quad-brush systems lift what suction alone leaves behind.
Higher GPH flow lifts heavier and settled debris off the floor. Weak pumps stir fine debris up without capturing it.
A focused comparison of the models recommended on this page, so irrelevant options do not crowd the decision.

Straight answers about choosing robotic pool cleaners for silt.
Use a NanoFiltration robot with good floor coverage. Silt is too fine for standard filters, which recirculate it. The Premier and Sigma capture it at 2 microns and keep the water clear.
It's kicking up silt it can't capture. A fine-filter model traps the silt instead of stirring it into suspension, so the water clears as it works.
No — standard mesh is far too coarse for silt. NanoFilters (standard on ProLine models, an upgrade on others) are required to hold it.
